Used Howo trucks are not a side line for us. Shandong Hummingbird is a second-hand vehicle export enterprise approved by China’s Ministry of Commerce, so inspected used units are part of the core business — and the inspection report goes out with the quotation.

What “inspected” actually covers

An inspection is only worth the paper it is written on if it lists what was checked. Ours covers nine points, and anything that fails is either repaired before shipment or declared in the report:

1. Engine — compression test, blow-by check and oil condition
2. Gearbox and clutch — shift quality under load, clutch wear measurement
3. Rear axle and differential — backlash, oil condition, seal leaks
4. Frame — crack inspection at the cross-member welds and the fifth-wheel mounting plates
5. Cab and chassis — rust mapping, floor pan and sill condition
6. Tyres — tread depth per position, sidewall damage, matched sets
7. Air system — compressor output and brake chamber condition
8. Electrical — wiring harness, lights, instrument cluster
9. Odometer — cross-checked against service records and engine hours

We would rather lose a sale than ship a truck that arrives needing an engine rebuild. That is not generosity; a bad unit costs more in claims and reputation than the margin on the deal.

Stock changes weekly. What is available depends on the model, age band and budget you are working to — send the requirement and we will send the units that match it, with photos and inspection notes.

How buying a used truck from China works

1. Tell us the job — route, payload, terrain, budget and how soon you need the unit in service.
2. We shortlist two or three candidates — each with photos, engine and chassis numbers, mileage and the inspection report. No stock photos.
3. You approve, we prepare — service, tyres and any declared repairs completed before loading, with photos at each stage.
4. Shipping and documents — RoRo or container, with invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.

Used or new: the honest comparison

A used Howo makes sense when you need capacity now, the route is well understood, and your workshop can handle routine maintenance. A new unit makes sense when the truck will run 200,000 km a year, when downtime is expensive, or when the specification has to match a trailer you already own. Buying the wrong one is the expensive mistake — so we quote both against the same requirement and show the numbers side by side.

Parts and support after delivery

Used trucks need parts sooner than new ones, so it matters what is available locally. Howo is the easiest brand in Africa to keep running: WD615 engine parts, brake chambers, clutch plates and suspension bushes are stocked by most heavy-truck dealers in West and East Africa. We can also ship a first-service kit with the unit — filters, belts, brake linings and a workshop manual — so the first months do not depend on finding a local supplier.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the truck is not a worn-out unit with fresh paint?

Every unit ships with a written nine-point inspection report and photos of the frame, cab floor and engine bay. If you want independent verification, we can arrange a third-party inspection before loading.

Can I see the truck running before I pay?

Yes. We send video of the engine starting from cold, the exhaust under load and the gearbox shifting through the range. For larger orders we can arrange a live video call from the yard.

What age and mileage are the used units?

Most units we export are three to six years old. Mileage varies with the duty cycle, which is why the inspection report lists engine hours as well as kilometres.

Do you supply spare parts with a used truck?

Yes. A first-service kit with filters, belts, brake linings and a workshop manual can be loaded into the same container.

What payment terms apply to used units?

30% deposit with the order and the balance against a copy bill of lading, the same as for new units.
